Anywhere Festival seeks new spaces for theatres
Brisbane’s most unconventional arts festival is calling on residents and business owners to transform everyday spaces into vibrant performance venues.
Anywhere Festival, running from 18 July to 3 August 2025, is seeking homes, workplaces, and unexpected locations – anywhere but a theatre – to host performances.
Founded in 2011 by Artistic Director Paul Osuch, Anywhere Festival reimagines traditional theatre by breaking down barriers between performers and audiences.
“We believe that theatre can happen anywhere,” said Osuch. “By inviting the community to offer their spaces, we’re creating intimate and memorable experiences that make art more accessible.”
Over the years, the festival has turned everything from backyards and warehouses to cafés and cemeteries into immersive performance spaces. This unique approach not only showcases Brisbane’s diverse architecture but also strengthens the connection between artists and the community.
“Hosting a performance is a fantastic way to support local artists and bring culture directly into your neighbourhood,” Osuch adds. “It’s about making art a part of everyday life.”
The festival welcomes a wide range of performances, including theatre, music, circus, poetry, comedy, dance, cabaret, and immersive experiences. Potential venues could include homes, libraries, breweries, furniture stores, yoga studios, sports clubs, skate parks, or even a mechanic’s garage.
Brisbane residents and business owners interested in opening their spaces can register via the festival’s official website or apply directly at Venue EOI’s. The process is simple, with the festival team offering guidance to ensure each venue is performance-ready.
“Whether you have a cozy living room, a spacious backyard, or a quirky business setting, you can be part of this exciting movement,” Osuch says. “Together, we can turn the entire city into a stage.”
