Theatre Works Launches 2025 Season

Theatre Works has been a launching ground for Melbourne theatrical talent for 40 years, and the shows they’ve put forth in 2025 are the future and a refinement of this talent.

Positioned within a historic 1915 church hall of state significance, Theatre Works is a Melbourne institution making history. Launching their season for 2025, theatregoers will be spoiled with over 100 performances to choose from and with almost every interest area covered.

Highlights of the season include ‘Three Sisters’ by Anton Chekhov and directed by Greg Carroll, will tak pride of place on the 2025 VCE Theatre Studies Playlist. This iconic work will premiere in March 2025 and be helmed by one of Theatre Works’ founding members.

The pick of June includes ‘The Selkie Project’ by Liminal Theatre, a new work of poetry and punk, exploring grotesque femininity, displacement, inheritance, and the freedom of being a misfit.

Also of intrigue is the thrilling reimaging of Hitchcock’s iconic film of the same name, ‘Dial M for Murder’ which performs in August and proves that the themes it explores are more pertinent than ever before.

Theatre Works categorises performances based on their involvement and facilitation and also acts as a festival hub for the Midsumma and Fringe Festival. Emphasised strongly throughout the presentations at the launch, the venue is a place that gives a platform and a voice to independent local artists.

The new wing at the rear provides a suitable and accessible backstage and creative space for performers.

Prior to the launch of the season, guests were treated to several speeches focusing on future directions for Theatre Works, particularly a pledge towards accessibility and inclusion. The speeches resonated with the audience as they focused on the need for creative spaces and original works in the Melbourne performing arts community. companies are facing challenges. Funding has hit a stalemate and creatives are struggling financially.

Evenings like the Theatre Works launch prove that a night at the theatre is never wasted, and it is equally vexatious to think people are missing out on seeing these fantastic performances.
