Cast Announced for Australian Premiere of ‘Elf: The Musical’

Christmas cheer is set to sparkle at the Sydney Opera House this December as the Australian premiere of ‘Elf: The Musical’ makes its way to the Concert Hall.

Opening on 19 December, this festive production promises to delight audiences with its heartwarming tale of family, holiday spirit, and an elf with a knack for spreading joy.

Stepping into Buddy’s curly-toed shoes is Gareth Isaac (‘Grease the Musical’, ‘Mary Poppins’), who will bring the beloved character to life. Raised as an elf in the North Pole but shockingly revealed to be human, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City in search of his real family—armed with nothing but unshakeable optimism and a fondness for syrup on spaghetti. Simon Burke (‘Wicked’, ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’) joins as Walter Hobbs, Buddy’s workaholic father who’s been permanently stuck on Santa’s naughty list. Adding a touch of romance is Brianna Bishop (‘Grease the Musical’, ‘The Deb’) as Jovie, Buddy’s sceptical love interest.

The cast also features Katrina Retallick (‘Come From Away’) as Emily Hobbs, Walter’s kind-hearted wife, and Oscar Bridges (‘The Sound of Music’) as Michael, Buddy’s half-brother who doesn’t believe in Santa. Lara Mulcahy (‘Mamma Mia!’) dons the red suit as Santa Claus, while Andrew Dunne (‘The Phantom of the Opera’) and Madeleine Mackenzie (‘Hairspray’) add flair as Mr Greenway and Deb.

Based on the hit New Line Cinema film written by David Berenbaum, ‘Elf: The Musical’ captures all the joy, chaos, and candy cane-fueled hilarity of its big-screen counterpart. Directed by Eric Giancola and choreographed by Mitchell Woodcock, this new production features a 15-piece live band under the musical direction of Vanessa Scammell.
