Elvis Musical to Rock the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is set to be the epicenter of rock ‘n’ roll when the award-winning musical “Elvis: A Musical Revolution” makes its Queensland premiere at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on June 15. This exclusive run, bypassing Brisbane, promises a month-long celebration of Elvis Presley’s legacy, featuring dazzling choreography and over 40 of his greatest hits.
This new bio-musical, authorized by Elvis Presley Enterprises, has been penned by internationally acclaimed writers David Abbinanti and Sean Cercone, who have previously worked on hits like “Saturday Night Fever: The Musical” and “Ghost: The Musical.” Their latest creation explores pivotal moments in Elvis’s life, from his humble beginnings in Tupelo, Mississippi, to his iconic ’68 Comeback Special.
Rob Mallett, who has received rave reviews for his portrayal of Elvis, leads an all-Australian cast. Mallett, known for his roles in “Home & Away” and “Singin’ in the Rain,” beat out over 700 applicants for the role. He brings Elvis to life alongside talented performers such as Ian Stenlake as Colonel Parker, Jo-Anne Jackson as gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and ensemble members Lauren Jimmieson, William Motunuu, and Callum Marshall.
Mayor Tom Tate expressed his excitement for the show, stating, “What’s not to love about a night with Elvis? Prepare to be mesmerized by this dazzling musical as an all-Australian cast takes to the stage at our very own HOTA. For the Gold Coast to secure this wonderful Queensland exclusive is testament to our city’s growing arts and cultural credentials.”
