WICKED Returns to Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in 2024
The Broadway sensation, WICKED, is set to grace the stage of the Regent Theatre starting from 6 March 2024. This announcement was marked by the flight of the iconic WICKED hot air balloon over Melbourne earlier this week. Lord Mayor Sally Capp welcomed the show’s lead stars, Courtney Monsma and Sheridan Adams, signaling the musical’s return to its original Australian venue.
Two decades after its Broadway premiere, WICKED continues to enchant audiences worldwide, having garnered numerous accolades, including the Grammy, Olivier, Tony, and Drama Desk Awards. Known as “Broadway’s Biggest Blockbuster” by the NY Times, the musical has been showcased in 16 countries, making it the fourth longest-running show on Broadway, surpassing CATS.
WICKED, inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, narrates the gripping tale of two young women in Oz, with contrasting personalities, who later become known as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. The musical delves deep into themes of friendship, societal perceptions, and moral dilemmas, resonating with audiences of all ages.
John Frost, producer for Crossroads Live, expressed his enthusiasm about the musical’s return to the Regent Theatre, emphasizing its global success and wide appeal. “WICKED is a musical phenomenon that speaks to everyone from 8 to 80,” said Frost. He urged Melbourne audiences to secure their tickets promptly, anticipating a swift sell-out.
The Australian cast boasts talented performers, including Courtney Monsma as Glinda and Melbourne-native Sheridan Adams, marking her lead role debut, as Elphaba. Other notable cast members include Robyn Nevin as Madame Morrible, Todd McKenney as the Wizard, and Liam Head as Fiyero.
The show’s narrative delves into the lives of two young women in Oz, exploring their complexities, ambitions, and the societal labels of “good” and “wicked”. With its captivating storyline, mesmerizing sets, and soul-stirring ballads, WICKED continues to be a testament to the power of musical theatre.
Tickets for this award-winning musical are now available for purchase from Ticketek. Don’t miss the chance to witness the magic of WICKED at the Regent Theatre in 2024.
