Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), in association with BBC Studios, Andrew Kay, and Windmill Theatre Co., is thrilled to announce that the original live show, based on the Emmy® Award-winning animated preschool series Bluey, will be back at QPAC’s Playhouse in Brisbane from December 30, 2023, to January 20, 2024.
Bluey has captured the hearts of children and families worldwide, becoming the number one kids show on Australian broadcast television and the most-watched series on ABC iview. With a global following in over 60 countries and airing on Disney Junior, Disney Channel, and Disney+, Bluey’s adventures have won over audiences everywhere.
The live stage show, Bluey’s Big Play, made its world premiere in Brisbane in 2020, featuring an original story by the show’s creator Joe Brumm and new music by Brisbane-based composer Joff Bush. This captivating theater experience brings the Heeler family, Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli, to life through puppetry and iconic sets, creating an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.
The show’s director and Artistic Director of Windmill Theatre Co., Rosemary Myers, expressed her excitement about returning to QPAC and Bluey’s hometown, saying, “After a sell-out QPAC season, the show went on to break children’s entertainment box office records across Australia, performing 447 times across 65 venues. Bluey has taken America by storm, both on and off-screen, and we can’t wait to share this special experience with new and returning audiences in Queensland again.”
John Kotzas, QPAC Chief Executive, welcomed the news of Bluey’s return, stating, “Brisbane has an extra special connection to Bluey, having hosted the world premiere of the stage show and being Bluey’s hometown. Bluey is an incredible Brisbane creative success story, and we’re very proud to have been part of bringing the beloved characters and stories to the stage.”
The theatrical adaptation of Bluey’s adventures has been a testament to the show’s popularity, and fans can expect an engaging and fun-filled performance that truly brings Bluey to real life.
