Did Everyone Forget “Barbie LIVE! the Musical”?

It’s been almost a decade since the international touring production of Barbie LIVE! The Musical debuted in Asia, and many people seem to have forgotten about the show. Despite featuring acclaimed director and choreographer Kobi Rozenfeld, a talented cast of singers and dancers, and dazzling costumes and sets, Barbie LIVE! has not received the attention it deserves.

A Brief Look Back at the Musical

Barbie LIVE! The Musical was a high-energy stage production that featured contemporary music, empowering lyrics, and a modern storyline that appealed to fans of all ages. The show debuted in Singapore in September 2013 and toured Asia throughout 2014, with stops in cities such as Manila, Jakarta, and Bangkok.

EMS Entertainment, a leading global creator of interactive exhibitions, family entertainment, and live stage productions, received the global touring rights to Barbie LIVE! from Mattel in 2012. The production company worked for almost two years to bring the show to life, collaborating with Mattel to create an unforgettable experience for Barbie fans around the world.

The Short Australian Tour

In April 2014, Barbie LIVE! The Musical completed a limited, one-off tour of Australia. The show featured scenes and songs from popular Mattel movies such as Swan Lake, The Princess and the Popstar, and Mariposa & Fairy Princess, as well as new music from acclaimed Broadway composer and music director Robbie Roth.

Despite the talent and energy of the cast and crew, the short Australian tour of Barbie LIVE! did not receive as much attention as it deserved. Perhaps the show was overshadowed by other popular stage productions or simply did not resonate with audiences in the same way that the movies and dolls have.

Looking Ahead to the Live-Action Barbie Movie

As we reflect on the forgotten gem that was Barbie LIVE! The Musical, we can’t help but watch as the upcoming live-action Barbie movie continues to reignite interest in the iconic doll and her world. Starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, the movie promises to be a fresh and modern take on the classic character.

Will the live-action movie be a hit with audiences and remind them of the magic of Barbie? Only time will tell. But in the meantime, let’s not forget about the talented performers and creative minds behind Barbie LIVE! The Musical. It was a show that deserved more attention and appreciation than it received.
