A reimagined fringe festival for Brisbane
Brisbane finally gets a fringe festival… The very first reimagined Fringe Brisbane Festival is taking place all across Brisbane with extraordinary experiences set to captivate audiences from the 14th of October to the 6th of November 2022.
Two years in the making, 2022 Fringe Brisbane Festival gives audiences everything they want and all the things they didn’t know they wanted with over 300 performances across 25 venues from South Brisbane to Stafford, Moorooka to Woolloongabba, Yerongpilly to Seven Hills and Fortitude Valley.
Fringe Brisbane is a brand new project by the team behind Anywhere Festival and has reimagined what a fringe festival can be from the ground up.
“People love the diversity, the eclecticness and the accessibility of fringe, but we wanted to make a fringe festival that was uniquely Brisbane. We can’t help but shake it up a little, re-imagining the fringe festival model to better serve artists and audiences alike ,” said Festival Director Zed Hopkins
Fringe Brisbane is Brizzy’s answer to a world-class fringe festival that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
“We knew that independent performing artists deserved a festival that focused on supporting and celebrating the community instead of artists fighting for space against acts with national profiles.”
For audiences, Fringe Brisbane has the accessible pricing and eclectic experiences of fringe globally, combined with an easy-to-navigate program that gives audiences access to world-class experiences across the city.
“We’ve reimagined the concept of a fringe festival because we’re seeing more and more artists getting ripped off and a growing need for a community driven art & culture festival, “ said Zed.
“We’ve re-imagined how the program works, how we support artists, removing the pay to play while giving artists the ability to take control and go as big or small as they want. We’ve even given artists agency so they know what the rest of the program is before they confirm, which amazingly, most other festivals don’t do.”
For audiences, it will be easy to know what’s happening and where when they have time.
“We’ve thrown out the standard boring catalogue of shows and made it a day by day program running from Thursday to Sunday for four weeks. Open up on any day and see when and where everything is including a few featured performances to help make an informed choice.
“Even if you only get one day, we want you to be able to explore and experience as much as possible.”
This event will feature comedy, theatre, music, cabaret and burlesque, dance, spoken word, immersive works and everything in between. There promises to be something for everyone.
“Fringe is about our creative Independence. It’s about our community, And it’s about coming together to innovate and build something extraordinary.”
