The good, the bad and the KING
LOVE DON’T COST A KING, a Drag King’s hunt for heart-stopping love, will perform from 18 to 24 April 2022 at The Butterfly Club, Melbourne.
This brand new show by two emerging artists ‘spills the tea’ on the good, the bad and the ugly of love, dating and music making at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) – Comedian, Lou Wall who attended the show’s preview said, “It’s camp, crass, stupidly smart, and… funny. Don’t miss these iconic newbies!”
LOVE DON’T COST A KING is written, directed, and performed by Michelle McCowage and Jane Schon, two recent graduates from the University of Melbourne’s prestigious Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).
“The show was inspired by our shared passion for queer stories, dismantling gender norms, high-quality production, and all-round silliness,” said McCowage and Schon in a joint statement. “MICF is such a welcoming space for queer performers and stories; LOVE DON’T COST A KING is the perfect show for anyone who has ever questioned the boundaries of their gender… and it’s a hilariously good time!”
“LOVE DON’T COST A KING will give you excessive hip thrusting, side-splitting comedy and original songs performed by MICF’s baddest bad-boy on the block, DK: a Texan Country Music Superstar, certified chick magnet, and thorn in the side of his no-nonsense manager, Glenda,” said the duo who will perform as DK and Glenda.
“Everything’s bigger in Texas and DK is no exception. In this original work, DK is on his first world tour Down Under but this time it’s not just about the music. DK is on the hunt for love, and what happens next will be his BIGGEST life lesson.”
LOVE DON’T COST A KING is the show you never asked for but always wanted, DK will try to sweep you off your feet with his looks, lyricism and larrikin-like allure… could you be his next match?
