Harvest Rain announces national tour of ‘We Will Rock You’
Are you ready to rock, Australia?
The high-energy rock musical, ‘We Will Rock You’, will tour Australia in an all-new arena production presented by Harvest Rain Theatre Company.
Raising the roof of Entertainment Centres across the country, audiences will be in for a treat especially with a musical show that pays homage to the songs of the British rock band Queen, with a book by Ben Elton. Harvest Rain CEO, Tim O’Connor, spoke about the production and how it will deliver on rock ‘n’ roll high-octane stadium feels.
“This show is a celebration of some of the best rock music ever written – it’s just hit after hit after hit!
“For the last two decades, ‘We Will Rock You’ has played in theatres all over the world, bringing the music of Queen into a more traditional theatre setting. With this show, we’re taking it back where it belongs, in an arena setting with pumping sound and lights and all the energy of a rock concert that we’ve so missed through the pandemic. Rock is back, baby, and we will rock you!”
Following the news was also a cast announcement, including many local Brisbane and Australian performers who will take on the mighty roles.
Australian singing superstar, Paulini (‘The Bodyguard’, ‘Hair’) will headline as Killer Queen, with Ross Chisari (‘Shrek’, ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ and ‘Aladdin’) as Galileo. Direct from the US National tour of ‘Kinky Boots’ and the Australian productions of ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Rolling Thunder Vietnam’, Kirby Lunn will play Scaramouche.
Also fresh off touring as Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz Arena Spectacular’, Carly Bettinson will play Oz (a different kind of Oz for this show) and Chris White (‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Rent’) will play the role of Brit.
Rounding out the principal cast will be Josh Whitten (‘Wicked’, ‘Grease’, ‘Rent’) as Khashoggi, Grant Couchman (‘Footloose’, ‘The Wizard of Oz’) as Buddy, and newcomers and recent graduates of the Brisbane Academy of Musical Theatre, Cristian Robba-Colley and Victoria Roberts.
Supporting the principal cast will be an ensemble of over 500 performers, making this arena tour the largest production of ‘We Will Rock You’ ever stage. Presented by Harvest Rain, this production follows in the footsteps of their previous sell-out national tours of ‘Cats’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘Grease’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
‘We Will Rock You’ tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought and fashion, and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same.
The arena tour kickstarts in Brisbane in October 2021, visiting Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Newcastle along the way.
Tickets for the Brisbane season will go on sale on Wednesday, 31 March 2021, via Ticketek, with all remaining cities on sale soon.
