Do you want to see ‘Frozen’?
For the first time in forever, Disney Theatrical Productions have announced ‘Frozen’ is heading to Australia.
Debuting in July 2020 at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre, this blizzard-like musical will sweep over our sunburnt country, marking Australia as the first stop on its international tour.
Directed and choreographed by two Tony Award winning artists, Michael Grandage and Rob Ashford, ‘Frozen’ has “sleighed” its time on Broadway. Housed in the Saint James Theatre since August 2017, the production has frequently ranked within the top 10 best-selling shows each week.
Not to mention, it’s 2013 movie counterpart warmed our icy hearts, quickly cementing it as the highest grossing animation film of all time.
A reimagination of Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Snow Queen’, ‘Frozen’ features a storyline that connects with an entire household. Embracing strong family themes and perfect comic timing, the show centres around two sisters and their magnetic bond – oh and Elsa’s magical powers that control snow and ice.
The Disney movie (of the same name) was a hit for many generations. Its soundtrack was full of ten original and enticing tunes, composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, which made audiences want to let everything go.
‘Frozen’ the musical promises to follow the same storyline and play those songs from the animated classic. There are also several new numbers which will expand the tale even further on stage.
Disney Theatrical Productions President and Producer, Thomas Schumacher, knew ‘Frozen’ would always end up on Broadway.
“It was immediately clear that this story of these two loving sisters would sing onstage,” he said.
“This creative team has created a glorious production and I’m delighted that Australia will be its first international destination.”
For Australia, being picked as the first country outside of America to witness this production is a real treat for our hot hemisphere. If you have any family members under the age of five, then it’s understandable how big of a deal this is.
Bookmark July 2020 and set repeat on ‘Let It Go’ – you know you want to.
